Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IGPA?
The IGPA is a parent booster club that works in conjunction with the International Gymnastics Gym to run the competitive team programs. The IGPA has a Board comprised of volunteer parents. The IGPA Board consists of a President, Secretary, Treasurer and Team Reps.
What does the IGPA do?
The IGPA coordinates all aspects of the competitive season for all team programs. For example, ensure all gymnasts are registered with the USAG; uniforms are ordered; and meets are scheduled and paid.
Why do I need to register with the USAG?
The United States Association of Gymnastics is the governing body over all competitive gymnasts. In order for a gymnast to compete at a meet, the gymnast must be registered with the USAG. Once the gymnast is registered, the gymnast will receive a member card, a member identification number, and a subscription to the USAG magazine.
What do I wear for a meet?
Team uniforms are required for competition. The coaches determine the uniform for each team.
Who decides who will compete and at what level?
The coaching staff will decide who competes and at what level. The IGPA has no involvement in this process.
Where are the meets?
The meets are typically within a 100 miles radius of the gym. However, State, Regional and National meets can be further.
When will I know the dates of the meet?
The schedules vary by sport. Each teams schedule is posted on their webpage when it is available. While the schedule may indicate an entire weekend, each competition is generally a few hours on one day. The actual dates and times that the meets/levels will take place are determined at a later date and can be as late as the week of the event. Specific dates and times will be posted as soon as they become available.
How much does it cost to participate in a meet?
Meet fees vary by sport and are determined annually. Meet fees consist of the gymnast entry fee, the team fee (each level has its own team fee), and coaches fees. Coaches are paid by the IGPA to attend meets. They are not paid by the gym.
Do you have any suggestions for hair styles, make ups, nail polish, etc. for a meet?
No makeup (not even lip gloss) should be worn. No nail polish, no tattoos and no jewelry. Hair should pulled back away from the face and long pony tails should be put in a bun. Any gymnasts with bangs below the eyebrows should be pulled back. Some glitter hairspray may be used.
Can I coach my child from the sideline during a meet?
Once the gymnast has been checked in and is with the coach, it is inappropriate for parents or anyone other than the coach to confer with gymnasts. No coaching of any sort is acceptable. This may cause a deduction in the score of the gymnast.
